Quilting 101
You'll learn how to choose blocks and fabrics incorporating color values and scale of motifs. Depending on the various block designs, you'll narrow your colors and number of fabrics and separate them into "lights", "mediums" and "darks". I'll teach each block in class and you'll do a second block of the same design and color for homework before the next class. Blocks will be 12 1/2" unfinished and 12" finished.
Preparing fabric, safe cutting with rulers and rotary cutters, the importance of consistent 1/4" seams, proper pressing, and squaring up blocks will all be covered. After finishing the blocks, we'll lay out the assorted sampler blocks and then sew the blocks together. Layering the quilt with batting and backing is next; followed by learning about various quilting techniques (but we'll be using the walking foot to straight line this quilt). Finally, preparing the binding and sewing it to the edge of the quilt will finish things up-- oh, and add a quilt label documenting your new quilting achievement!
